How to Drive Safer on a Long Trip

We like to drive, and most do so every day. How can we do so safely? Well, a recent survey found that 80% of drivers admitted losing the ability to concentrate after driving long distances without a break. Some are overcome by a form of tiredness after 125 Miles, others after 300+ miles of driving without a break. With out a doubt there is a connection between signs of tiredness, physical performance and bad eating habits.

Therefore, for safer driving, the German Society for Nutrition recommends the following:

MISSIONS TRIPS

Rest well before a longer trip. Don't start out with an empty stomach, but don't over eat, and avoid fat. Eat vitamin-rich foods.

Take a break every two hours, don't just remain seated in the vehicle, get out and walk around and eat something, perhaps fruit, biscuits, chocolate. But again, not too much!

Do your best to eat your meals at your regular times. Eat small meals and take your time. After you eat, don't start driving right away. "Stretch your legs" a bit at first.

Drink smaller amounts of beverages, like milk, fruit juices, mineral water(coffee and tea only moderately) more frequently, instead of a large quantity at one sitting.

Some of these suggestions may not work for you, but some of them will. Why take any chances out there on the road, these steps will add very little time to your travels. Taking some of these small steps not only will be a protection for you, but other drivers on the road.
